Digging Denmark

An interdisciplinary research opportunity took Adam Amspacher, a senior Occupational Therapy (OT) major, to Copenhagen. During those two weeks in Denmark, he worked with chemistry, biology and anthropology students to analyze remains from a 12th century grave—remains that were uncovered while digging a subway tunnel. "We found signs of arthritis, worn-down knees caps and teeth-all signs that identified the remains as those of manual laborers." It is the "creativity" of occupational therapy practice, along with the "generalist approach" of E-town's OT program, that Adam likes. "It offers a little bit of everything—pediatric, geriatric and schools-based therapies. He plans to focus on adolescent and pediatric OT where he can see the lasting impact of his work..
