Every two years, the Millersville University selects a topic to serve as a focus for campus lectures, events and activities to promote collaboration, investigation and conversation across disciplines within the University and our community.

The theme “Reason and Hope in an Age of Uncertainty” seeks to embrace creative and innovative solutions to the dilemmas of the post-9/11 world – fraught with fear, anxiety, hope, and possibility – while forming a more systemic understanding of our interrelationships with the planet and with each other. It invites the Millersville community to make interconnections across disciplines and seek partnerships beyond the academy for meaningful dialogue on aspects of uncertainty facing humanity. The theme encourages us to engage our intellect, innovation and intuition in extraordinary ways: to create new ways of being in the world that propel us to a future that is vested in cooperation between nature and science, creativity and reason, community and self fulfillment. We seek a moral maturity commensurate with our technological advancement. Together we can generate unique responses to the challenges facing humanity.
